Vote for Mr. Darcy!

Who played it best?

Amanda W. and I have been watching "Regency House Party" during our crafting sessions lately. It's amazing, if you haven't heard. Just like "1900 House" or "Frontier House"--except it's a 1800's England and the ladies are trying to land the best man! FUN. There's even a HERMIT on the grounds!! :D

OKAY. So, in the spirit, I re-watched both the Pride & Prejudice movies (A&E TV version and newer movie version.)

I can never decide which I like better. I always lean towards the TV version, just because it's a classic. I remember watching it LIVE with my mom and her having to "translate" what was happening because it was a bit beyond my vocabulary at the time.

Then again, the movie version has AWESOME cinematography, and it really seems to capture the romance a bit more.

So, I guess it all comes down to Mr. Darcy. Who played him best? Colin Firth on TV? Or Matthew McFadyen on the Big Screen?

Let the voting commence. :)

Oh that show sounds like a blast. I watched the 1900s one and the frontier one, is this on PBS too? Or is it on DVD?

I have the same trouble deciding too, but I have to say that the film version Darcy is my favorite. The actor did this amazing job of making him misunderstood, and it was those little things, like the slight stuttering, and quick glances at Elizabeth that really made you hold your breath. Arguing with myself, Colin Firth seemed to be a bit stronger in his status, and harder to read, which was more like the book. And I just love that scene where Elizabeth shows up on his estate only to see him soaking wet in almost his underclothes and he is completely caught off guard. Endless giggles.

Hehe, now I need to watch them :)

Love this movie! Colin Firth is wonderful however,my vote for favorite Mr. Darcy. goes to Matthew McFayden. He's so cool and sexy. The fact that he's so shy when he is around Lizzie makes him even more irresistible!

Oh my goodness, you've seen 1900 house?!?!?! I absolutely loved that show! That was the first time PBS threw a family into that situation and I thought they did such a good job.

I reallymust find some money because there are a few of your crowns I very much want! And of course they are the most expensive ones...

Colin Firth! How is this a choice. He is the best at playing Mr. Darcy.

This is so difficult. But I've read the book so many times and honestly, I think of Matthew McFadyen as Mr. Darcy, more than Colin Firth. However, it's all up to one's interpretation of the character in the book. Colin Firth - is Colin Firth to me still, I can't lose who he is, although he is marvelous. Great question though!

WHAT? Colin Firth of course! There is no question! x

Though I have a deep and abiding love for Colin Firth, I think that Matthew McFadyen did a better Darcy. I read the book before I saw either version, and McFadyen is exactly how I imagined Darcy to be.
