Blooper reel!

This will probably become a running gag on my blog....

Picture-taking is such a large part of what I do for my business ... but it can be a messy job.

Here is what you don't see --- the really bad photos that I usually promptly delete.

You see, to take a decent picture of yourself, you pretty much have to take about 300. One or two of these will be OK.

Here's a sampling ... ENJOY!! :)

The Zombie.

The distracted stare.

The half-blink.

The half-open.

The goofy grin.

Read this!!!

Okay. So, this is the first blog post I've written while under the influence of alcohol. My typing skills may suffer.

Be forewarned.

I am AMAZED I was able to spell that correctly.

Anyway. The reason I just HAD to write a post right now (in this altered state) is because I just read this article:

Isn't it amazing?!?!?! I feel so validated! Those nights of staying up late worrying about how I was about to quit my job ... WORTH IT.

Maybe it's the alcohol talking (just a bit) but I feel pretty dang good right now.

birdie love

So. This post is related to nothing at all. Completely random! I planned on making a post about doing my taxes ... (which is more interesting than it sounds... really!)

But I took this cute picture of my birdie love, Caesar, giving kisses (almost). I look like some kind of CRAZY bird lady with my hair in rollers and my robe on. Whatever. It's cute! Caesar used to not be too interested in me ... but now that I'm home more, he's totally warmed up! It's great. We are buddies.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is about quality of life. You rush through your days just getting in your hours, counting down to the weekend and payday ... making plan ... more plans... to-do lists...

But really, it's about the little things. Enjoying life. It's sounds so cliche ... but it's so true.

bbuuuuuuhhhh ......

I've been sick.

UGHH!!!

It started with these weird bumps on my neck ... and I thought "that can't be good." And it wasn't. Had a KILLER sinus infection and couldn't even do Etsy!!!

It was a good thing I had some time off work anyway, but it sucked that all I could do with my time off was sit on the couch and watch movies. Normally, this is my ideal activity ... but when you're sick ... nothing is fun.

My bird, Caesar, was my only entertainment when there was nothing to watch on TV and I was out of good movies. Here he is giving some love to his mirror. Such a narcissistic bird.

I'm just about at 100% now ... got some sweet antibiotics (just in time to go back to work.) SIGH. Ah well. I am thankful that I can taste food and breath through my nose again :)

OOOHHH. I want to make a new video but and out of ideas.....Any suggestions for some sort of tutorial video???

just because

I think it's important to know where you came from (and how far you've come) to be able to move forward in life.

And for this reason (and because I think it's kind of funny and entertaining....)

I give you "EMILY: THE AWKWARD YEARS."

PRESCHOOL. I am squinting at the camera because the sun was bright. I remember that. I wanted him to hurry up and take the stupid picture. I look a bit evil here...

7TH GRADE (really awkward years): I have braces. I have bad bangs. I don't know what I was thinking ....

GRADUATION: Here is where the hair up-do thing started!! I still have such a baby face here ... oh, to be young!

It was an old-fashioned Halloween freak-out.

This is what our lives have amounted to:

Oh yes, that's right. Halloween to me means a trip to the ribbon outlet. Lauren and I dressed up as .... I don't know ... fairies on crack? I look a bit like a drag queen.

We got lost then bought ribbons. Then went back to work.

I do miss all the leftover candy though :( I might have to go buy some random bags on sale at the CVS and play pretend again :)

Random show and tell!

(You know how I like to make lists...)

My favorite song:

My favorite piece of art:

(Frida Kahlo: The Two Fridas)

My favorite movie:

(Gone With The Wind)

My favorite smell:

(crisp fall air.)

My favorite poem:

A Clear Midnight- Walt Whitman

THIS is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless,
Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done,
Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou
lovest best.
Night, sleep, death and the stars.

My favorite book:

(Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.)

Couldn't think of any more categories ... I'll probably think of lots when I'm driving or in the shower...maybe I will add them in :) hehe

A blog about nothing

(the queen mum rocks a crown...)

Hey all! Sorry it's been so long since my last post! I've just had NO energy lately. Like, I've even taken to napping during the afternoon before I go to work! Also, (this is bad) I've started buying stupid starbucks coffee almost every day! (Isn't that so dirty...)

This is bad for two reasons:

1.) It's a waste of money
2.) It is so fattening and the skim/sugar-free/no-whip drinks taste like glue!

Anyway, I am making myself blog, because it always makes me feel better when I do :)

So, let's see .... nothing really exciting has happened recently. The boy and I stayed in last weekend. We cooked salmon on the grill and made a salad using vegetables from the garden we planted together!! It was cute, trust me. :)

I've discovered that I can record little mini videos on my computer, which is exciting!!

I plan on making a:

"how to wear a comb" video
"how I fix my hair like that" video (because a fair few people have asked! Oddly enough)
"welcome to my studio" video

Should be kind of goofy, but, whatever. People like goofy.

Wish I had some cool photos to post, but i never think to take the camera anywhere. i think I need a little "pocket-sized" one.

Well, my birthday is coming up, so trust that I will have TONS of photos and stories then :)

Dumping it out

I've been to quite a few appointments in the last week. The car dealership, couple doctors, blood work, etc. I find, when in that "waiting patiently" situation, I go straight for my purse.

I think a lot of women have a sort of "3rd arm" attachment with their purses. I carry my life around in it! I saw one women dig through her sack and produce a spoon --- like a real-life silvery spoon. She poured out a dose of cough syrup and took it. Kind of sticky and gross, but hey, whatever you gotta do.

I thought it would be fun to dump it out and show what I carry, because I always wonder what other women are toting.

Let's see, well, first off there's the water bottle. Gift from Lauren because we had some joke about water bottles. I forget it now. Useful though!

Got the cell phone and a variety of pens (I think I see an Ikea pencil, too!)

Business cards, big wallet with check book, Kleenex and a granola bar (you never know...)

New change purse from Rich (from Hawaii!) Shell pill-holder.

And the "which goose laid the golden egg?" smaller zip container with all the secret stuff! :)

=====

In other news:

I bought this print from another dealer in my mom's antique shop. Isn't it great!

I decided to try to replicate the crown:

It's definitely still a work in progress. But look for it on Etsy in the next week or two!!! I'm also going to be listing these little gems:

I'm branching out with the butterfly coloring and styling! :)

Here's the week's worth of production.....drying and ready for photos and descriptions! It's quite a process from idea to listing to shipping. Rewarding though.

Oh! And meet my new Mac book :) Isn't he cute!! He is already getting covered in glue though. It was inevitable....

Randomness, Vol. II

My mom always sends me these forward e-mails --- and this one's pretty good! Thought I would share :)  (Thanks, Mom!)

=====

It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.

One human hair can support 3 kg (6.6 lb).

The average man's penis is three times the length of his thumb.

Human thighbones are stronger than concrete..

A woman's heart beats faster than a man's.

There are about
one trillion bacteria on each of your feet..

Women blink twice as often as men.

The average person's skin weighs twice as much as the brain.

Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still.

If saliva cannot dissolve something, you cannot taste it.

Women reading this will be finished now.

Men are still busy checking their thumbs.

Random-ness!

So, yeah. ... I just HAD to share this photo. Isn't it great! Apparently, the couple were on vacation and set up an auto-picture, and this little squirrel popped in the shot!! heheehe

Love. it.

Also, have you seen this video? It's from "Ukraine's Got Talent." She's a sand artist!

It's kind of long -- about 10 minutes---but really cool!

Come on get happy!

Sometimes, when I'm feeling mad at the world, I do a google search for "cute animals." This always yields results that make my heart melt and my teeth feel soft!

I've been trying to make myself happier lately. But I still tend to get all mad or sad when stupid little things go wrong in my life! I've decided to start taking short walks everyday (because most say this is a source of stress-relief) and also taking time to "do nothing."
My twisted self will probably count the walking time as the "nothing" time, just so I have more TIME to do other things. Ah well.

Here is the wikipedia definition of happiness:

Happiness is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy.[1] A variety of philosophical, religious, psychological and biologicalapproaches have striven to define happiness and identify its sources.Philosophers and religious thinkers often define happiness in terms of living a good life, or flourishing, rather than simply as an emotion. Happiness in this older sense was used to translate the Greek Eudaimonia, and is still used in virtue ethics. In everyday speech today, however, terms such as well-being or quality of life are usually used to signify the classical meaning, and happiness usually refers[citation needed] to the felt experience or experiences that philosophers historically called pleasure.

A few of my favorite things

Isn't it strange how certain possessions hold such importance and meaning? These are a few of my such "things."

I was thinking the other day about what I would save from a fire. The list got WAY too long. Maybe I am too attached to things?

Here are some from the very top (In no particular order because I am borderline blog-illiterate.) :)

Poncho of my mom's that she wore!

Sammy. My one true love.

Letters from my sister, Amanda. She is in Seattle and I only see her once or twice a year.

Box of my Nana's crafting supplies.

Harry Potter books. (Notice Goblet of Fire is missing? Rich is reading them all :)

Letter from my college poetry professor on our yearly publication. He writes "Emily, with terrific admiration for a real one."

Itching for some fresh ink.

I have tattoos. (See picture).

I think I may have blogged about them already. Hard to say...

I'm not sure why I got them all in the first place. But I know exactly at what point in my life I got them. I can remember who I was with, who I loved, what I wanted, who I thought I was.

It's all recorded on my back!

I got the compass first, then the N and S, then the angels (one at a time) then the banner. I bled, I cried, I held hands, I tried to look tough.

It started off as an old map theme...with a bit of "Moby Dick" inspiration... I don't know for sure. It's all a bit faded now, and I usually forget I have them until I catch them in the mirror or photograph, or someone says, "Hey, you have tattoos." (I know - I was there.)

So, anyway, the point of this rambling was to put out the call for a new one. I've been looking at this guy for a while (God from Milton's "Paradise Lost.") Kind of cool looking.

Then again, I've been thinking about getting something on my inner forearm. Something small but meaningful. Maybe a small vine or fern...or a goose!

Any ideas?

How did I not know about twitter?

I think I maybe am developing some sort of mania--I just get OBSESSED with things so easily now!

Today, it is TWITTER.

Upon first glance, it seems a lot like your average social networking site, however, it's WAY more fun! I love talking about myself in third person, and you pretty much do just that! You write updates about what you're doing -- whatever you are doing!

Example: (It's actually not third person...but I think I might start doing that...) " I am writing a new blog about using twitter and then writing a twitter about writing a blog about using twitter."

Did I just blow your mind!? :D

P.S. Getting new glasses on Monday! YAY. Will post pics :)

come to my window

Dun dun dun DAH!!! VINTAGE SCARF CURTAIN!! Isn't it cool!?! I eventually want to go all the way around my little window room, but that will take time.

Senacia gave me this idea---and I just thought I'd share it with you all :)

Oh..and I made a dream catcher. On the suggestion of Lauren. She has said numerous times "you should make a dream catcher." So-- I did (Sorry--can you tell I'm tired?)

Anyways--it so totally non-traditional, I almost feel bad calling it a dream catcher. The real ones are so amazing looking. I like to think that it looks like my dreams--my future dreams maybe.

It's all glittery, but simple and down-to-earth. I kind of hope no one buys it :)

Getting my teeth cleaned tomorrow--I think that's why I'm still up. Maybe if I don't fall asleep, tomorrow will never come! I know I know....I just need to floss more :(
