Yep, you know what that means ... I got engaged!!!
So, this blog is turning into a bit of a wedding journal since I need to vent some ideas and get some feedback!
Here's the background:
I've been dating my boyfriend for about 4 years. We are late 20/early 30s.
We went up to Gettysburg for a mini-trip and to stay at a B&B.
Our room had a little balcony ... and though it was sprinkling a bit outside and sort of wet, he insisted we go outside to get "some fresh air."
...
All goes blank ... he's on one knee opening the ring box.
What?
What?
Squeel!!!!!
...
We had a lovely dinner to celebrate and a chance for me to turn my ring in the candlelight from side to side and say "oooo" and "ahhh".
That night I basically didn't sleep AT ALL. I would keep grinning and then kick my feet a bit in the sheets.
Total excitement ... like, every night before Christmas put into ONE.
...
Finally, it's been about 3 days, and the excitement is waning .. but now slowly turning into a feeling of panic.
My whole life is surrounded by weddings. I talk to brides just about everyday (and they are usually stressed out.) I just thought they were putting too much pressure on the event ... letting the whole thing get out of control.
But now, I see that there is no way not to.
...
Of course, we could do the courtroom thing.
But that feels like giving up.
I know it will be awesome to see my little niece Ella with her flower girl dress ... and my dad waiting to walk me down the aisle.
But where to start?
...
I've never planned a party for 75-100 people before .. how am I supposed to organize it and be the host if I'm busy getting married?
And above all else, how are we supposed to pay for it all?????
...

how exciting!! congratulations!! everything will come together, it always does. Don't panic. ;)
Congratulations. So happy for you both; gotta love that shaky-leg feeling ;o)
We are having a 250 guest wedding with a buffet dinner and open wine/beer for under $5000 (not including cost of wedding gown). It can be done! And if anyone can do it, you can, because I am not nearly as crafty as you, and I am doing it.
I have made everything. My own centerpieces, linens are actually on sale sheets (no one will know), invitations and envelopes I made on my own from boxes and boxes of free paper that I got from a magazine company closing, online rsvp saves on postage and paper, Craigslist, recycled bride, freecycle, groupon and living social are awesome sites to score free or bargained items such as vases, and votives. Pinterest will give tons of DIY ideas, our friends are taking the pics, making cakes, were doing our own boutinneers and bouquets from an online wholesale shop. Also if you get married at a state park before memorial day or after labor day, most will not charge you Anything... FREE! Then you just need chairs or a cheaper version would be "picnic style" and everyone brings a blanket. Its so doeable, and actually kind of fun! I am getting married in october and have made mostly everything, and I haven't been stressed about much. Try to enjoy the planning, think outside the box and the wedding of your dreams can happen on a budget, with much more personality than the planned cookie cutter weddings that cost way more! Good luck em!
SO Exciting! Congrats. It will all fall into place little by little : ) And there are lots of DIY ideas that I bet you'd be amazing at!
Congratulations!!!
I love all the buzz around wedding planning.
Don't worry, and try to enjoy- it goes much quicker than you think!
Mother's advice...first, pick a date!
I have been browsing your floral crowns on Etsy and drooling over them; I'm getting married in December (and just got engaged last week, too!) and I LOVE the floral crowns. I can't really afford them, though, so you've inspired me to try to make my own (which should be fun!)
Anyway, I just wanted to say you are so talented, and also congratulations! Good luck with wedding planning! It feels overwhelming at first, but now that its' the second week of engagement, it's starting to slow down and seem manageable.
Congratulations!!!! Can't wait to see what you wear at your wedding, I know it will be B-E-A-UTIFUL :)
Oh my goodness, congratulations! Can't wait to see how it all comes together :D
Congratulations! I'm sure you will get through this :) And I love your ring!
I did the "courtroom thing", mostly because the pressure was overwhelming me and I didn't want to begin my married life in debt because of a wedding. Overall, I am happy with my decision, but I still long for a beautiful day somewhere on the beach, where everything would be just for us. I definitely see a renewal of vows in the future :). With one of your crowns, of course!
